It is going to be a long winter

As expected our run was a about 12 miles. Maybe a quarter short or so. The guys and I were set for an out and back with a little loop at Whetstone park. Nemo confessed early on that he met a girl on his flight back from Chicago this weekand had gone to meet her at a party on Friday night. That means Nemo was out late and would likely suffer a bit today. I must admit, I got a little spark in my eye when he said that he was out late. As a rule, if you are a little sluggish in the morning, don't mention it. The rest of the boys get jealous that you had a little fun the night before and tend to turn the screw.

We should have had water stops and bib numbers for the run home. I think we knocked off 5 or 6 at sub-7. It was a little harder than I like but at least I didn't get dropped. If every weekend is going to be like this, it is going to be a long winter.

The idea of going fast now, albeit new to me, may be just what I (we) need to move to a new level next year. I've been reading lots about the adverse impact of LSD (Long Slow Distance). "Running long and slow makes you run long and slow". I recently read an article on the "reverse pyramid". Basically, you recruit fast twitch muscles now and run high tempo, build the longer slow twitch, endurance in the spring and summer when the weather is more conducive to longer workouts. We'll see. It's either that or we are all afraid of loosing last falls fitness since it was a PR season for all.

As a special treat, we got to see Double-D running with the MIT posse. It was good to see him make his return to Marathon Training. I, and the guys I run with, are all very proud to see him return and are pulling for him to PR in the Columbus Distance Classic in the spring. Nice job man. On the other hand, J-Fo is still nursing a bum leg. I think he got a high ankle sprain trying to wear high-heels to ladies night at Spice last fall. We wish him a speedy return.

Off to a couple Christmas parties. Hope I don't over indulge. I'm hoping to get 8-9 in the morning with Nemo at Highbanks.

Didn't get dropped is quite an under-statement...
