Tucson Training Camp - Day 6

Let me just start with this…I am beat. I feel like I’ve either got the flu or need sleep or something. After the epic ride and Mexican dinner with Feebs and Dr. DB yesterday, MD and I spent the greater part of the evening watching top 100 Videos of the 80’s on VH1. I didn’t get enough sleep and was already tired as we headed to the pool at 6:45am.

I loafed through the swim with about 2600 yards, mostly free and lots of pulls since my legs were shot. We then hopped over to Starbucks for some breakfast and coffee. I’m really looking forward to being able to sit outside at a coffee shop in Columbus when it warms up.

MD and I headed over to Sabino Canyon Park for a trail run. We wanted to get some off pavement miles and I love trail running. I really felt like I was floating through the trail, across the streams, over the rocks, and bouncing left and right. If you ever want to do this run it’s quite easy, run 45 minutes up Seven Falls trail until you find a rattlesnake blocking the path, turn around and run back to the car. We were fortunate that someone tipped up off to the snake’s presence about 100 feet before we got to it because I fear I would have run right over it. We gently walked up to within viewing distance of the snake to get a good look and make sure we were properly scared. It is the most scenic run I’ve ever done in Tucson. I’ll be back there.

The afternoon provided my first opportunity for a nap and it was great. I propped the sliding door on the bedroom open, turned on the ceiling fan, and took in a desert siesta. While I napped MD, was working on his own recovery program.

We roused ourselves from the afternoon nap to nock off a second run for the day at the River Road Trail, It was slow, but it felt better than I expected. Tomorrow we will be riding with an optional swim in the morning. I say optional because MD will swim and I won’t.

Stats
2600 yard swim
8 mile run (1:20) – morning
11 mile run (1:34) – evening
