I've been real bad about getting posts out this week during training camp. I'm working a few hours per day and I don't really feel like sitting in front of the PC in the evening. Wednesday was finally brought us some better weather. MD and I started the day with run along the Rillito River. In all the years I've been coming here the river has always been dry, this week it is flowing like my hair in high school. We went 10 miles on an out an back. Just as we made the turnaround, two guys rolled by in FULL Garmin Chipotle cycling kits including team bikes. One of the guys looked like Tommy Danielson. I have to say if it wasn't, these two guys were the biggest dorks ever. Anyhow, I felt good on the run and pushed sub-8 for the loop back. Finally, I'm starting to get some legs.
After the run we had some pancakes and headed out towards Gates Pass. Gates Pass route looks like this....

We rolled under a beautiful blue sky and just took in the scenery. As opposed to the our other rides, nothing very interesting happened. Sorry to bore you. I did have to drag MD around most of the day as you can see from this photo. He sat right here for 3 hours... I gave a good hard effort on the final climb to make sure I got the victory. At the last steep point, I gave MD "the look" over my shoulder before I exploded out of the saddle and rode to the summitt. I gave the double pistols salute to the heavens as I crested! It hurt but it has been a long time since I've had that pain from climbing so it was good. He wasn't feeling his best this day but rest assured, he gets his revenge tomorrow.
We drove back up to Phoenix on Wednesday night. With Mount Lemmon closed and Kitt's Peak closed, we decided to hit up Bartlett Lake to get some climbing. Our rental car has XM Satelite Radio. We drove along belting out Disco and Power Ballads for hours. It was a a real bonding time...OK actually MD talked on the phone most of the way about work stuff and I counted roadside memorials. They are all over the place. Either Arizona is the most dangerous place to drive in the whole world or there is some strange practices
here.
Stats
10 mile run (no timing - stupid Garmin messed up)
40 mile ride (2:30)
