Long Run Saturday

Good paced run today. 15 miles at about 7:40. MD was saying that our first long run of '08 was 10 miles and we thought we were going quite long for January at that time. I guess either we are off to a good strong start or as MD was saying, "We are running hader because we can". I'm hoping and planning that the greater weekly volume will bring us good fitness later in the year. We’ll have to see.

Fortunately, I think I was setting the pace today. MD was coming off a bit of a stomach flu and GS had a little twinge in his leg early in the week so they were not out to tear me up. I felt good at about 7:10 – 7:30 on the second half of the run. I got an hour of spinning at Lifetime afterwards so it is obviously nap time now.

How far was your long run? GS and I were discussing the “long run” vs "weekly volume" and both agreed "weekly volume" is much more important for running a good marathon. I’m going to start working on a new calculation. This is the start: The long run should about 60% of the previous 6 days. So, this week I ran 26 miles going into the long run. That would work to about 15.6 miles for the long run. I’ll keep track of it and see how it works out.

We got to see most of the MIT army. It was good to see Double-D back out there after missing last week. I missed the GF and J-Fo is still nursing an injury. I think he needs a new doctor.

By the way, I found my new bike, when I get the nerve to spend the cash. The Ridley Noah has a custom painting tool on their website. I set it up just the way I want it.

Good luck Nemo with the 20 miler this weekend. Don't get lost in the woods.
