Head cold seems to be clearing up so I decided to bang out a run on the treadmill over lunch today. Now, I’m no doctor but I did play one with the neighbor girl when I was much younger. I think cold medicine elevates the heart rate or something. I trotted through the first mile at 7:50, huffed through the 2nd mile at 7:30, gasped through the 3rd mile at 7:15, and had a racing pounding heart rate for the 4th mile at 6:57. The obvious action was to stop and head for the shower.
A quick WebMD and Google search could not support my hypotheses regarding the impact of antihistamines on running so maybe it is just one of those days. Try to do better next time.
Exciting news! I got an email from Heather Fuhr; my IM Lake Placid training plan is available online. The season starts Monday.
Stats
4 miles (whatever the treadmill said)
164 lbs

If it makes you feel better...palpitation, tachycardia, nasal stuffiness, thickening of bronchial secretions, & wheezing are all side effects of antihistamines. ALSO..the most common side effect is drowsiness (unless you took Allegra or Claritin).
