It’s finally warm enough to get to the track! It was a balmy 33 degrees this morning. I rolled out of bed at 4:45 since I was hungry and wanted to eat a little something before my morning workout. Grapefruit and some blueberries with granola settle well as long as I don’t eat too much. Out the door at 5:15 for a mile and a half warm up run over to the track to meet the fellas at 5:30.
By the time I made it over to the track, the guys had started the warm up so I only got about 2 laps before it was time to start working. Nemo and GS were doing 7x1000 but I don’t have the legs for that right now since I’ve been doing little speed work. MD manned up an took on the challenge. I opted for 16 x 400 trying to stay around 90 seconds. It was rough but I didn’t feel as bad as I feared holding most of the laps in 80 – 90 seconds. It was a little quicker when I tried to catch the others as they were going around.
More importantly, Tuesday night group rides have started. Actually they started last week but tonight will was my first chance to get to see Daredevil’s fitness. He looked good. We rolled out at a wicked fast pace with the A group and it was hard from the get go. A little break was formed as some chose to race through a stop sign. I helped chase that down and was in the red zone most of the ride. Daredevil looked strong through the first half of the ride, even staying on after GS dropped off the back. MD came off the back a bit to drag GS back to the lead group but GS didn’t make the catch. The final 20 miles were tough, every time I rotated to the front, the pace slowed down. I took my share of pulls but it wasn’t quite as quick as the other four. The final group was MD and I with three other guys. MD and another missed the last turn gong into Canal Winchester so I ended up third at the final sprint. We averaged about 22 mph for the 37 miles. It hurt.
If Tuesday’s are going to be like this, track in the morning and Canal Hammer Fest in the evening, it’s going to be a long summer.
Stats
10 mile run (speed work)

The Canal ride was indeed a "hammer fest" for the Daredevel. I did everything I could to hang on with that wicked pace. I will say this, I have a long way to go fitness wise to keep up with the A's. Its going to be a hard start to the season, as the base miles at that intensity are just not there, yet.
As least I beat GS, with some tactical help from Mr. Lee of Team Kenda. :) I'm sure it will be one of the few times, until GS gets his cycling legs under him.
