Bad Legs

This weekend is going to be interesting. I did a bit more cycling the last few weeks than I usually do but the key workout this weekend is the long run on Sunday. Today I had bad legs. Pushing hard hurt and I wasn't in the mood to hurt. To my disappointment, I was the guy the others were waiting on. MD and GS met me bright and early this morning at the school south of Milford Center. This was amazing because 1) It was 6:30 in the morning and 2) because I told them both to meet me at the school south of Unionville Center. Despite these obstacles, we were rolling before 7:00am. The route was "Top of Ohio" up to Bellefontaine and through the hills. It is one of my favorite rides in the area since it is close and I feel that it is a good place to prepare for the hills in Lake Placid.

We started out easy and chatted for a bit but after 10 miles, I just slid off the back and rode solo. It was nice to take it easy but it grinds me a bit when I get dropped. MD is looking strong on the bike and GS had the legs to stay with him. I rationalized my slacking a few ways...I want to run well on Sunday, I've had about 100 more bike miles this week than usual, I know I can ride with them if I want but I just don't want it today. What can I say? I didn't have it today. They were nice enough to wait for me in Bellefontaine and even seemed concerned enough to call me. Yeah, that was a bit of insult to injury. Corkscrew hill after the stop was the last I saw of either of them for another hour and a half. Next week will be better.

When I rolled back to Unionville, MD and GS were not there which that told me they went for a few more miles. So, not to be outdone, I added another 12 mile loop to bring the day to 72 miles. GS was nice enough to wait around for me so we could do a little 30 minute transition run. The run felt better than I expected. That was the only redeeming factor on the day.

After the run, I was HUNGRY. I'd had enough sugar for the day so I made a very unusual stop at Wendy's for two double burgers. Down they went and then it was nap time. Great way to spend a Saturday.

Where was everyone else you ask? Nemo is out of town but getting some good workouts in the hills back home. Rumor has it that despite Double-D's acrobatics on the bike last weekend, he is buying a new ride. J-Fo rode from Columbus to Circleville this weekend so it is good to see his recovery from foot surgery is progressing. Daredevil and the rest of the "Brotherhood of Cyclist" were out chasing hills in southern Ohio. I hope they all had a good safe ride.

Quick note: Congratulations to my big brother Professor Brinkman on the completion of his first ever triathlon. He added this to his schedule after completing his first marathon a few months ago. To quote him "...the swim was horrible..." Yep, that gets you the first few times. It gets getter.

One more note for Double-D on his your new bike, make sure you get one with breaks. Despite your experience in learning to stop from this guy, you don't want to use your foot.
