Uneventful Week on the Road

The only really good thing this week has been Residence Inn breakfast. I spent the week working in Northern Kentucky so I had my home away from home at the Marriott Residence Inn Cincinnati Airport. For those that don't know this, the Cincinnati airport is not in Cincinnati or even Ohio for that matter. It is in Erlanger Kentucky. Regardless, the Residence Inn is my favorite hotel. I like it better than the "full service" Marriotts for a few reasons. The biggest is the hot break fat buffet. Now I know you can put on weight with this option but I firmly believe that if I load up on scrambled eggs and and the fruit tray, I will be fine. You have to be sure to stay away from the pancakes, muffins, meats, sausage gravy, and biscuits but I can eat a ton of eggs. They are only like 76 calories per egg. I figure I eat about 3-4 in a plate so no big deal. There is also the added benefit that there is one less receipt to turn in. Less receipts means much less work. The Residence Inn also has a full size fridge and stove top. I can hit the grocery on Monday and have decent food the whole week. This means only one receipt AND I don't eat terrible. Of course there are down sides to traveling. The biggest is that I have no idea where to run.

After the tough run last Sunday, I took Monday off. Tuesday morning, I took off from the hotel and ran a 12 minute out and back in a typical office park. It wasn't very scenic but at least a good start for the day. By afternoon, I was curious about the area. I found a park in Northern Kentucky with a bunch of hills. I must have still been suffering from the long run because the run was cut short after about 8 minutes and I really just walked around the park. Still it was nice.

Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday were just short little morning runs from the hotel. My legs were sore all week from the beating last Sunday so I chalked it up as a recovery week. I'll do better next week.

Saturday, I actually went for an little open water swim. I don't know why really. I won't need those skills until next June but I enjoyed it none the less. Probably because I didn't have to think about it as workout but more like a little fun. MD and I took a long ride following the swim. He is starting the taper for IMMoo and I thought he could use the company. I drafted him almost the entire day so I was able to hang with him. 65 miles in about 3:45. We averaged 18mph. I even went so far as to run 30 minutes after the ride. Once again, skills I won't need until next spring but I wanted to make sure MD didn't just run into the woods and wait for me to drive away.

GS and Nemo were unable to join us this weekend. Poor GS has a bad hamstring that I think has him resigned to skipping IMMoo. I feel terrible for the guy. He showed some great form this year but just wasn't able to avoid falling off the ledge. Nemo had some parenting duties on both Saturday and Sunday.

Sunday morning was cool like last week. I think it was in the low 60s. I like that for running weather but yesterday's ride must have taken a little out of me. We planned to run 13 miles in the high 7s. It seemed just as hard as last week"s faster run. The last 4 miles were a little quicker and actually felt a better. MD looks to be on pace for about a 10 hour IM judging from the training.

Congratulations to all the Peletionia riders this weekend. The GF got her second 100 miler of the season, Daredevil somehow managed to raise like $1200 dollars in 3 days, and Lance Armstrong showed he was the strongest rider of the day.
