Back to Normal

Lots happening since the return from Tucson but I've been a little too busy to post much. Maybe when I get fired, I can be a little more dedicated to blogging. The Columbus boys from MRC(am) seem to getting together a little more. GS and Nemo have been rather diligent but MD and I have had some messed up schedules. I've had to be in Atlanta and Philly the last 2 weeks and MD has been to NYC, DC, Boston, and probably a few other places but we are at least getting some good weekend runs in. I was even lucky enough to get graced by the presence of J-Fo one morning this week! He is making a slow comeback but we are all rooting for him.

Last weekend was an absolute riot. Straight out of our playbook from last fall. Easy paced out, a bit of joking and banter. All of a sudden at the turn around it was "on like Donkey Kong". The trail had some closures so we had detoured up to High Street and we were running hard. Nemo started pushing the tempo and then MD and I picked up. When MD gapped me, I started taking short cuts back to the trail. Nemo and GS followed me and we regrouped but poor MD ended up about 1/2 mile back. We couldn't stop laughing. He and Nemo raced hard the rest of the way back with MD getting the better of us all I belive.

This week I was able to get back to the track. The track was funny...2 x 4 x 800. I ran my first 800 in 3:25. Not quite the lightening 2:50s I was dropping last fall. Nemo and GS were looking good running steady 2:48s. Since, I really hadn't run hard in a while, I dropped down and did some faster 400s.

It is safe to say the Nemo and MD are in much better shape than GS and I right now because we both took a little injury break. It is fun to watch them duel it out but I wish I could be in the race This Saturday was about the same as last week. Nice and easy on the way out and then BAM!. Nemo and MD went hard after the turn around leaving GS and I behind to bring up the rear. MD seemed to be on fire. I lost sight of them both in less than a mile and Nemo told me later that MD even put it to him. Time for a drug test for MD. I fear he may have stumbled into some good PEDs or something.

It was the longest run I'd had in a while but it didn't feel too bad. GS and I put up 2:20 for 18.5 miles. It gives me a little hope for Boston. Last spring I had three 18 milers leading up to Boston in 2:20, 2:28, and 2:20. I don't have as many long runs as last spring but good to see I'm almost back to form. It is still tough to get my ass handed to me the last couple weeks. I feel like Speedy's cousin. Slowpoke is the slowest mouse in all Me-hi-co...

I messed up running around the house Saturday morning rushing out to my car barefooted and cut my toe. Since I'm a running addict, I wrapped it up real quick and headed out for the run. Needless to say, I ruined a shoe and a sock. Not for the squeamish...

No real damage, all bark and no bite. I was really nervous as I took off my shoe and sock but after washing up, I just lost a bit of skin off the big toe but it looks brutal. I was able to run on it today without any problems.
