Running in a New Year

The First on the First 5K was this morning. It was a late start but the air was still a cool 20 degrees and there was a little breeze. As planned I went out with the lead group and came through mile one around 5:45. I knew then that the pace was going to be a little hot for me. I hung on for a 19:02 and a PR.

5K racing is wild. You know it isn’t going to last long but it really hurts. GS and I were discussing after the race that the training would be much different if 5K was the focus. I’d do a ton more 200s and 400s to get the leg speed up.

I was looking for a race prediction calculator. This site is cool because it will predict race times given a change in body weight. For example, each pound of body weight lost will save you a little over a minute in a marathon. It also has a calculation for races given performance at other distances. Fun to play with.

CT, you rock! We would have been at the finish line with a very rockin' banner if we lived closer. I bought new running shoes yesterday. I have very high expectations for this year's races. Your blog motivates me.
