Tucson Training Camp - Day 1

Well the week started well. I ran 12 miles with Dr. DB and MD in Phoenix. Nice easy pace out, and a little pick up on the return. I visited with my niece and nephew a little bit and then MD and I headed south for Tucson. Unfortunately I did not get my post Saturday run nap.

We are set up in a little condo complex about 9 miles from the base of Mt Lemmon and the Catalina Highway. The condo is nice and clean, as of today, and has a full kitchen, washing machine, and a cold outdood pool which is great for a post workout leg soak. It is also conveniently located about 1 block from a nice outdoor pool with lane lines which is perfect for some morning swims. This will be the 2nd year we are setup in this condo complex so we have all the logistics worked out and it makes a great base camp for a week of getting some good miles.

As soon as we got to Tucson, we assembled bikes and made an assault on Mt Lemmon. We only rolled to mile marker 3 but it was good to get a look at the hill and make sure everything is in working order (my bike and me). We had a quick Mexican dinner, no margaritas though. Then it was off to the grocery to stock up for the week.

We loaded up on oatmeal, bananas, sweet potatoes, brown rice, peanut butter, frozen veggies, egg whites, bagels, fig newtons, blueberries, strawberries, apples, other assorted fresh frut, and a few other things. It is the perfect assortment of “healthy” choices and quick foods. When I work out like this, I like food that prepares quickly.

I’m guessing there will be a common theme this week of “let’s go out to a bar” followed shortly there after by “I’m really tired, let’s go out tomorrow”. We really thought about trying to go and catch some music or maybe a cool bar but that idea ended shortly after dinner. Tomorrow we will hit TriFest Expo. Maybe I’ll fall in love with a bike and bring home something new.

Big thanks to my dear Sister-in-Law for a great breakfast!
