Recovery Week Recap

Last week was my final scheduled recovery week before Ironman in 35 days. It was also a rest week from the blog but I will catch it up today. The recovery week actually started with quite a workout on Tuesday with 2 rides including a Time Trial. It was good to get a baseline for the coming weeks.

Wednesday was a total rest day. I slept in until 6:30 and just tried to relax for a day. The coming weeks are going to be rough. I felt guilty about being so lazy. It was one of those things where I had to keep telling myself to relax.

Thursday’s track workout was funny. If you were watching you’d have had a tough time differentiating between the warm up, the main set, and the cool down. It was a lazy effort. MD met me after work for a quick spin to Osterander and it was mostly a social ride with a few minutes of effort every now and then.

Friday morning was Master’s swimming and an afternoon run in the heat and humidity. I don’t like heat and humidity but it is good to try running later in the day to simulate starting later in the day like Ironman.

Saturday was a mess. The fellas and I (along with the GF) were heading for an early morning swim at Alum Creek but that was cancelled when we found the beach was closed for some boat races. We opted instead for an 8 mile run before jumping on the bike. The ride was 68 miles and the effort was probably more than I should have put out. It was windy but I think we averaged 18 mph. I was still able to run afterwards which gave me some confidence.

Sunday was a wasted day. I tried to swim for a bit with GS at Life Time in the morning but my heart wasn’t in it. Nemo met GS and I at Highbanks for what should have been an 8 mile run but I bagged it after 4 miles. I wasn’t feeling too hot. The other guys got a good long run though. I was done working out by 8:30 am with nothing else to do the rest of the day. It felt a little odd to waste such good weather but I know the next 2 weeks are going to be heavy.

Oh yeah, I got a new bike as well. I’d been considering replacing the Cervelo and my local shop had a Felt B2 TTR on sale. So after months of talking about it, I got a new ride. Dr. DB will hate it. He doesn’t like Felt but the ride feels smooth and fast so I’m happy with it so far. I’ll get some pictures posted this week.
